Seminar I: Introduction to Auricular Medicine

Auricular Medicine is a unique art of medicine because of its unique characters such as simplicity and painlessness. In this first seminar, it will give a thorough introduction to Auricular Medicine. The objective of this seminar is to let the students have a good understanding about the fundamentals about the Auricular Medicine.

First we will introduce the history of Auricular Medicine. It is important for the students to learn the history because in this way the students can have a better understanding about the relationships between Auricular Medicine and other medicines, especially TCM.

Secondly, we will discuss the differences between Auricular Medicine and other medicines, such as TCM and French Auricular Therapy.

Then we will introduce the diagnosis and treatment methods of Auricular Medicine. However, we can only show you the basics about these methods because of the time limitation.

Finally, students can learn the general applications of Auricular Medicine, such as relieving pain, vertigo etc.

Students should have a general understanding of Auricular Medicine once he/she finishes the seminar.

Seminar II: Auricular Points

Auricular Points are the most fundamental and important knowledge of Auricular Medicine that the students must master. Both Auricular Diagnosis and Auricular Treatment are done through one specific Auricular Point or a combination of specific Auricular Points. Students can practice Auricular medicine only after the students understand what the functions of different Auricular Points and their exact locations.

In this seminar, we will discuss extensively about the Auricular Points, such as the definition and distributions. We will introduce the Auricular Points that is important to Auricular Medicine: functions, distributions, and classifications.

Students should have a good understanding of Auricular Points once he/she finishes the seminar.

Table of Contents

  • Introduction to Auricular Medicine
  • Definition of Auricular Points
  • Distribution of Auricular Points
  • Location of Auricular Points
  • Classification of Auricular Points
  • Classifying Auricular Points according to their function
  • Discussions

Seminar III: Functions of Auricular Points (Part I)

Seminar III and Seminar IV together will give you the detailed information about the most important auricular points, such as their locations, diagnosis values, and treatment values.

Altogether there are 200 auricular points that will be discussed in these two seminars. They are discussed according their functions and classifications.

This seminar focuses on the Specific Points, Points of Nervous System, and Points of Endocrine System. These points have special values in diagnosis and treatment in their related diseases.

Specific Points are very unique here because they can be used to diagnosis and/or treat specific diseases, such as diabetes and blood pressure. The instructors will cover many of their exclusive research results in this seminar, which greatly improves the accuracy in diagnosing many special diseases.

The student should know the functions and locations of these Auricular Points after this seminar. They should now have some ideas about which points should be selected according to specific diseases, especially for the diseases which can be either diagnosed or treated through these specific points.

  • The Various Significance of Auricular Points
  • Nomination of Auricular Points
  • Classifications of Auricular Points
  • Functions of Auricular Points
    1. Specific Points
    2. Points of the Nervous System
    3. Points of the Endocrine System

Seminar IV: Functions of Auricular Points (Part II)

Seminar IV, together with Seminar III, covers all the important Auricular Points. Their diagnosis values and treatment values will be discussed, including the methods to fulfill the diagnosis and treatment. For each point, we will show you their locations in the visual diagram.

Altogether there are 200 auricular points that will be discussed in these two seminars. They are discussed according to their functions and classifications.

This seminar focuses on the Corresponding Points, Points of Five Zang and Six Fu, Posterior Points, and Other Points.

The student should know the functions and locations of these Auricular Points after this seminar. They should now have ideas about which points should be selected according to specific diseases.

Seminar V: Auricular Diagnosis

Seminar V and Seminar VI cover Auricular Diagnosis, including Visual Diagnosis, Palpation Diagnosis, Electrical Detection, and Differentiation.

In this seminar, we will introduce the Auricular Visual and Palpation Diagnosis, which is the oldest and most fundamental method of Auricular Diagnosis.

When there is any pathological change in the human body, there will be some changes on the corresponding Auricular Point(s) too, such as color, shape. These changes can be used to diagnose diseases.

Auricular Visual and Palpation Diagnosis is a method to diagnose the diseases simply based on these changes. By inspecting the color and shape changes on the auricle and feeling the internal changes on the auricle (especially the cartilage changes), one can decide the possible diseases or pathological changes in the human body.

Simple it is, it has been proved to be precise. With the powerpoint presentation and the demonstrations, Dr. L. Huang and Dr. W. Huang believes the students can have a good understanding about this simple method.

  • Classifications of Auricular Visual and Palpation Diagnosis

Seminar VI: Auricular Diagnosis and Techniques

Electrical Diagnosis is a relatively new method, which was developed in the 1980s.

Once there are any pathological changes in the body, the physiological conditions on the auricle, especially those of the corresponding Auricular Point(s), will change too. Such changes will cause the electrical resistance changes. We use the Auricular Treater/Point Finder to detect these changes.

We can diagnose based on this information and the information we gathered through Auricular Visual and Palpation Diagnosis. The technique that we used here is named Differentiation.

Differentiation analyzes the data that we gathered through the inspection, palpation and electrical detection based on this set of methods:

  • based on the reactions in the corresponding points
  • based on the regulation that the positive reaction may indicate
  • based on the theory of Viscera and Bowels and the theory of Channels and Collaterals
  • based on the theory of modern medicine
  • based on the reactions of the diagnostic reference points

Finally we can decide the location and nature of the disorder. Because of the nature of all these methods, Auricular Diagnosis is simple, quick, low-cost diagnosis system. However, it is proved to be very precise.

The instructors believe that through these two seminars, the students can have a good understanding about the Auricular Diagnosis. With more practice and training, the students can quickly master these methods.

Seminar VII: Auricular Treatment

Auricles have been used to treat different diseases since 2000 years ago in China and it has been proved to be efficient.

Auricular Points are corresponding to specific diseases or specific parts of the human body. The treatment and diagnosis are both done through the Auricular Points. It is very important for the doctor to select the right combination of Auricular Points in order to reach maximum treatment values.

In this seminar, we focus on the point selection, including the principles of the point selection and many efficient prescriptions.

  • Principles of Point Selection in Auricular Treatment
  • 46 Prescriptions of Auricular Treatment: Functions and Classifications

Seminar VIII: Auricular Treatment and Manipulations

There are more than 8 different auricular treatment methods that have been developed. In Auricular Medicine, we normally use three of them: Auricular Seed Therapy, Auricular Massage Therapy, and Auricular Bleeding Therapy, because of their efficiencies, painlessness, and simplicity.

In this seminar, we will first give you short introductions to all the auricular treatment methods. Then we will focus on the three treatment methods that Auricular Medicine used. The instructors will teach you the theories and knowledge behind these treatments and also their manipulations.

Dr. Lichun Huang will demonstrate these methods in the class.
